Group mentoring
Group mentoring provides students with a safe, supportive space to connect with a trusted adult and their peers. Sessions are designed to build confidence, encourage reflection, and help students feel ready to engage in learning.

What is group mentoring?
Group mentoring brings together up to six students to meet with a Tute mentor in a structured online session. The mentor guides discussion around shared themes such as confidence, motivation, well-being, aspirations, and routines, while also encouraging students to share experiences and support each other.
Why is it important?
We know that success at school isn’t just about lessons. It’s also about feeling supported, heard, and prepared to learn. Group mentoring helps students to:

-
Build confidence in themselves and their learning
-
Develop routines and strategies for success
-
Talk through challenges in a safe, understanding environment
-
Celebrate progress and achievements together
-
Set personal goals and plan practical next steps

How does it work?
-
Sessions are 30 minutes long and take place twice weekly online
-
Mentors are trained teachers who guide discussions and activities.
-
Each session follows a clear theme but remains flexible, allowing students’ voices to shape the conversation.
When does mentoring end?
There’s no “one size fits all.” Some students may need just a short series of sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. The decision to finish mentoring is always made positively and collaboratively between the mentor, the student, and us. The aim is for every student to feel confident and ready to move forward, when the time is right for them.
Who is it for?
Group mentoring is for any Essex Online School student who would benefit from regular check-ins, encouragement, and the chance to develop skills for learning and life alongside others. It is particularly helpful for students who may need extra support with confidence, engagement, or managing transitions.
